Fertility & Pregnancy Care
Pre-Pregnancy Care
A pre-pregnancy care visit can help you take steps toward a healthy pregnancy before you become pregnant. Caring for your health before you become pregnant is good for you and your baby. The goal is to check for any potential risks to you and your baby during pregnancy and to address any medical issues you may have before you become pregnant. Having a healthy pregnancy is one of the best ways to promote a healthy birth. It's about becoming your healthiest self, physically and emotionally, before you take that next step into pregnancy.
Pregnancy
The first step is to book an appointment to confirm your pregnancy and register for the Maternity and Infant Care Scheme. This is a healthcare programme during pregnancy where care is shared between your GP and your chosen maternity hospital. It involves approximately six GP based antenatal visits and two postnatal visits and attending your maternity hospital for six antenatal visits. All pregnancy-related GP visits provided as part of the programme are free-of-charge.
Fertility Care
It is estimated that 1 in 6 couples in Ireland will have difficulty conceiving. The first step is to rule out any underlying medical issues and then decide whether specialist referral is needed. A consultation will look at your medical history, physical health and organise first line blood tests for you and your partner. You can then be supported in a referral to a fertility clinic and through any treatment that may be required.
Emergency Contraception & Unplanned Pregnancy
Did you know there are more reliable methods available for emergency contraception than the morning-after pill? Make an appointment as soon as possible if you feel you require emergency contraception.
Unplanned pregnancies happen to women of all ages. Accessing the right information in a supportive environment allows you to make the best choice possible for you at this time. Make an appointment as soon as possible to discuss your options in a safe, confidential space where you will be supported through your decision.
